NLI AS to acquire GE Energy’s Sørumsand production plant

KJELLER – September 21, 2005: GE Energy and NLI AS have reached an agreement whereby NLI will acquire GE Energy’s production facility in Sørumsand, Norway. The transaction is expected to close 3 October 2005, pending all necessary approvals and satisfaction of customary closing conditions. Up until now, GE Energy has produced turbines for the hydropower industry at Sørumsand.

Since the decision to discontinue GE Energy’s operations at the Sørumsand plant was made in January, GE has been working to find a buyer that could provide the assurances regarding the future of the plant and its employees.

Today’s agreement between NLI and GE Energy stipulates continuation of the plant’s operations. All employees will be retained, with the exception of 18 engineering positions that will be transferred to GE’s technology center at nearby Kjeller. Details regarding the transaction will be made public 3 October, when the contract is closed.

NLI kjøper GE Energy på Sørumsand

Kjeller 21. september 2005: GE Energy AS og NLI AS er nå blitt enige om at NLI overtar GE Energys turbinverksted på Sørumsand i Akershus. Salget forventes å bli sluttført 3. oktober 2005. Verkstedet på Sørumsand, som ble kjøpt i 1999, har inntil nå produsert turbiner for vannkraftindustrien.

– Jeg vil rette en særlig takk til de mange lojale arbeidstakerne på Sørumsand for deres konstruktive samarbeid og gode innsats, sier administrerende direktør Birger Godal Holt i GE Energy (Norway) AS i en kommentar til salget. – Vi har vært opptatt av å gjøre vårt beste for å finne en god løsning. Derfor har vi hele tiden vært åpne for fremtidig drift i verkstedet, fremholder han.

Siden avgjørelsen om å avvikle GE Energys virksomhet på Sørumsand ble tatt i januar i år, har GE jobbet målbevisst for å finne en kjøper som kunne sikre fremtiden for verkstedet og de ansatte.

Dagens avtale mellom NLI og GE Energy sikrer videre drift ved verkstedet på Sørumsand. Alle de ansatte beholder jobbene sine. 18 stillinger overføres til GEs teknologisenter på Kjeller. Ytterligere detaljer knyttet til salget vil bli offentliggjort når avtalen er sluttført 3. oktober.
