Position: Cover Story Writer
Treatment: 1099 Contractor
Hours: Freelance/flexible
Compensation: $24/piece
Location: Remote (telecommuting OK, US residents only)

We are a rapidly growing news content provider that needs experienced journalists to write cover stories for the weekly, hyperlocal sections of a major metropolitan newspaper.

The job pays $24 per piece. Stories are two-source interviews on topics selected well in advance by our editorial team. Story lengths average 650 to 700 words, and each assignment requires the writer to include three hi-res photos from sources. An assignment editor will provide you with a story template and data to help write each piece. You contact sources, conduct interviews, mix in the data and write to spec.

Writers will be asked to handle anywhere from two to four stories per week, with more possible for top performers. Efficiency and scalability is our goal, and journalists who can operate well in that environment will find this to be a rewarding job. If you are driven, detail-oriented and a good writer, this job is for you.

Our company operates in a remote landscape, so you will be able to work from home anywhere in the U.S. Content is due each week on Thursdays, meaning that attention to deadline is a must.

We use an Internet-based content management system that is easy to learn and use. Access to high-speed Internet is required. Advancement opportunities are available for top performers.
